Sensex up 64 points at 10,744

The markets gave up some of their gains after trading strong for major part of the day.

The weakness penetrated in during the final half an hour of the trade following the flat trend in Asian markets. The European markets have opened in the red.

The Sensex after breaching the 10800 level during the day finally closed at 10,743.88, up 64 points. The Nifty closed with a gain of 12 points at 3143.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,131.48, up 66 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,303.28, up 25 points.

The BSE sectoral indices closed mixed. Select IT, capital goods and power stocks witnessed buying and were among the gainers.

Markets today

The BSE Bankex gained 1.3% at 4,781.14. Andhra Bank, PNB, Union Bank, Kotak Mahindra and ICICI Bank were among top gainers.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index gained 0.5% at 2,705.04. Whirlpool, Samtel Color, Su-Raj Diamonds gained ground.

The BSE Health care index closed up 0.4% at 3,227.22. Lupin, Aventis Pharma, Pfizer, Ipca Labs and Cipla closed in the positive terrain.

The BSE Capital Goods Index gained 1.5% at 7,010.79. Crompton Greave, KEC Infrastruct, HEL, HEG, Aban LoydChiles closed higher.

The Auto index closed at 4,476.87 up by around 1.3%. Hind Motors, MRF, M&M, Maruti Udyog, Cummins and Tata Motors closed higher

The BSE IT Index was up 1.4% at 3,951.13. HCL Info, Satyam, Wipro, Infosys closed green.

The BSE FMCG Index was down 0.7% at 1,880.63. HLL, Nestle, McDowell, Dabur India closed in red.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed flat at 5,049.785 and the BSE Metal Index was down 0.1% at 7,796.10.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5090.18 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 15892.06 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2264.92 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 23247.16 crore.

Sensex @ 1419 hrs

The markets continue to trade at the higher level as buying is seen in scrip across sectors.

At 14.19 pm IST, the Sensex is up 142.46 points or 1.33% at 10822.69, and the Nifty up 37.95 points or 1.21% at 3168.75.

About 1569 shares have advanced, 740 shares declined, and 64 shares are unchanged.

All the BSE indices are trading in green. Banking, capital goods and IT stocks are leading the up trend.

The major gainers on the Sensex are BHEL up 4.5%, ICICI Bank up 3.4% and Satyam up 2.9%. On the Nifty HPCL up 3.9%, Suzlon Energy up 6.2% are the gainers.

The losers on the indices are Grasim, HLL, HDFC, Jet Airways and VSNL.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 237.75 down 1.86% from its previous close of Rs 242.25.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 985.00 up 0.49% from its previous close of Rs 980.15.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,661.05 up 1.96% from its previous close of Rs 1,629.10.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 168.00 up 1.79% from its previous close of Rs 165.05.

Sensex @ 1320 hrs

The markets are trading firm and continue to trade at the higher level.

At 13.20 p.m, the Sensex is up 156.75 points or 1.47% at 10836.98, and the Nifty up 43.30 points or 1.38% at 3174.1.

About 1547 shares have advanced, 681 shares declined, and 68 shares are unchanged.

All the BSE indices are trading in green. Banking and IT stocks are leading the uptrend.

The major gainers on the Sensex are BHEL up 3.81%, ICICI Bank up 3.73% and Satyam up 3.61%. On the Nifty HPCL up 4.23%, Suzlon Energy up 4.16% are the gainers.

The losers on the indices are Grasim, HLL, HDFC, Jet Airways and VSNL.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever has slipped in the negative and was trading at Rs 240.30 down 0.8% from its previous close of Rs 242.25.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,661.50 up 1.99% from its previous close of Rs 1,629.10.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 167.90 up 1.73% from its previous close of Rs 165.05.

Sensex @ 1201 hrs

The markets continue to trade in positive taking cues from fairly strong Asian cues on account of numbers suggesting slowdown in US economy.

At 12.01 p.m, the Sensex is up 157.90 points or 1.48% at 10838.13, and the Nifty up 41.30 points or 1.32% at 3172.1.

About 1514 shares have advanced, 555 shares declined, and 64 shares are unchanged.

All the BSE indices are trading in green. Banking and metal stocks continue to the lead the rally.

Among the major gainers were BHEL up 3.17%, Satyam up 2.94%, ICICI Bank up 2.54%.

Top gainers on the Nifty were HPCL up 4.55%, Suzlon Energy up 4.34% and NALCO up 3.38%. Grasim, Jet Airways and Orietal Bank were among the major laggards.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 243.80 up 0.64% from its previous close of Rs 242.25.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 992.90 up 1.3% from its previous close of Rs 980.15.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,647.00 up 1.1% from its previous close of Rs 1,629.10.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 167.75 up 1.64% from its previous close of Rs 165.05.

Sensex @ 1055 hrs

The markets are still trading very strong responding to the June '06 quarter numbers.

At 10.55 a.m., the Sensex is up 145.27 points or 1.36% at 10,825.5, and the Nifty up 37.15 points or 1.19% at 3167.95.

About 1323 shares have advanced, 372 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged.

Among the top gainers on the Sensex were Reliance Comm up 2.86%, Satyam up 2.26% and Tata Motors up 2.03%.

Top gainers on the Nifty were Suzlon Energy up 4.61%, NALCO up 3.58% and Tata Tea up 3.10%.

Grasim, ONGC, VSNL, Jet Airways were among the major laggards. Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 245.85 up 1.49% from its previous close of Rs 242.25.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 996.50 up 1.67% from its previous close of Rs 980.15.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,640.10 up 0.68% from its previous close of Rs 1,629.10.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 168.25 up 1.94% from its previous close of Rs 165.05.

Sensex @ 0957 hrs

The markets opened with a gap up on the back of good global cues and some strong corporate results. At 9:57 am, the Sensex was up points at 10802 up 122 points and the Nifty was up 34 points at 3165.

Asian markets were trading higher. The Nikkei average rose 0.7%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 97.65 points or 0.58%, Singapore's Straits Times moved up 16.70 points or 0.69%, South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 9.35 points or 0.72% and Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 29.51 points or 0.46% at 6,450.56.
