Sensex zooms 346 points at close

The markets closed with hefty gains in tune with other markets across the globe. The global rally was powered by dovish statement by Ben Bernanke on moderating economic growth and contained inflation.

Apart from the positive global cues we also saw some good set of corporate numbers like Gujarat Ambuja, which was above street expectations.

The markets maintained the momentum throughout the day with gains spreading over midcaps and small caps as well.
The Sensex closed with handsome gains of 345.60 at 10,352.94 and the Nifty gained 90 points to close at 3023.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 4,943.81, up 61.79 points.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,127.59, up 52.85 points.
About 1214 shares advanced, 1066 shares declined, and 78 shares were unchanged.
All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the green. Banking stocks lead the rally followed by metal and auto stocks.

Total market turnover at Rs 31763.24 cr Vs Rs 33203.26 cr on Wednesday

The BSE Metal Index advanced by 5.2% at 7,810.14. Sesa Goa, Sterlite Ind, Tata Steel, Hindalco and Jindal Steel witnessed buying interest.

The BSE Bankex was up 4.83% at 4,247.28. Bank of India, Oriental Bank, PNB, Andhra Bank and Bank of Baroda.
The BSE FMCG Index was up 3.56% at 1,919.95. Tata Tea, ITC, Colgate and Dabur India closed in green.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 2.96% at 6,581.90. Greaves Cotton, Thermax, L&T and Ingersoll Rand closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index added 2.86% at 4,269.64. Escorts, Apollo Tyres, Tata Motors, MRF, Bajaj Auto and M&M closed in positive terrain.

The BSE Health Care Index was up by 2.86% at 3,073.48. Ranbaxy Labs, Nicholas Pirama, Dr Reddys Labs and Divis Labs were among the major gainers.

The BSE IT Index was up by 2.8% at 3,844.02 moved up. Satyam, Mphasis BFL, TCS and Infosys jumped.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index rose 1.38% at 4,985.49. Petronet LNG, HPCL, MRPL and Kochi Refineries advanced higher.
The BSE Consumer Durables Index gained 1.37% at 2,611.69. Su-Raj Diamonds, Blue Star and BPL were up.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5643.66 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 23538.64 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2580.94 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 31763.24 crore.
