Sensex down 21 points at 10,130

The markets ended in the red but witnessed choppy trade through the day, as investors worried about Fed rate hike and F&O expiry on Thursday.

The Sensex fell 21.31 points or 0.21% to finish at 10,129.70. It touched an intraday high of 10,204.66 and an intraday low of 9,909.76.

The Nifty also ended down 1.35 points or 0.05% at 2,981.10. It touched an intraday high of 3003.65 and an intraday low of 2909.60.

The CNX Midcap finished at 3794.70, down 0.76%. It touched an intraday high of 3810.80 and an intraday low of 3754.75.

The BSE Midcap also closed at 4,214.64, down 19.90 points or 0.47%. The BSE Small Cap also slipped 49.04 points or 0.93% at 5,195.95.

The market breadth was negative, about 847 shares advanced, 1471 shares declined, and 71 shares remained unchanged.
The total market turnover registered at Rs 39247.05 crore (Rs 392.47 billion). The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5911.84 crore (Rs 59.11 billion). The BSE cash turnover was at Rs 3593.07 crore (Rs 35.93 billion).

Total turnover lower at Rs 39,247.05 versus Rs 48,601.71 yesterday.

SAIL board has approved Rs 1,553 crore expansion plan for Salem steel plant. The stocks slipped 3.12% at 77.70.
Asian Paints has hiked prices of some products by Rs 2-3 per litre.

UK court has rejected Ranbaxy's appeal on Lipitor patent. The share ended down 2.52% at 351.65.  UK court has upholded Pfizer's claim on infringement of patent-633. The stock closed up 1.35% at 770.90.

The BSE Bankex lost 80.73 points or 1.87% to end at 4,243.03, as selling was seen in Kotak Mahindra, Allahabad Bank, Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Canara Bank, UTI Bank, Union Bank and SBI.

Consumer Durables stocks like Titan Industries, Whirlpool and Blue Star also plunged. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed at 2,605.03, down 58.37 points or 2.19%.

Pharma stocks including Ranbaxy Labs, Aventis Pharma, Dr Reddy's Labs, Lupin, Apollo Hospital and Cadila Healthcare also plummeted. The BSE Healthcare Index ended down 32.59 points or 1.06% at 3,050.70.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 8,045.56, down 52.35 points or 0.65%. Metal stocks like Jindal Saw, Sesa Goa, Welspun Guj, JSW Steel, SAIL, Jindal Stainless and Jindal Steel also dropped.

However, the BSE Auto Index ended at 4,510.17, up 45.57 points or 1.02%, as gains were seen in Apollo Tyres, Tube Investment, Cummins, Bajaj Auto, M&M and Punj Tractors.

Technology stocks like TCS, Wipro, Patni Computer, i-Flex Solutions and HCL Info also finished in the green. The BSE IT Index closed up 26.26 points or 0.74% at 3,597.93.

The BSE Oil & Gas Index also ended up 34.61 points or 0.69% at 5,049.68. Oil stocks including GAIL, Reliance, Chennai Petro and BPCL also advanced.

Capital goods and FMCG stocks also witnessed some buying in late trade.

NSE F&O update:

Sensex @ 1454 hrs

The markets were witnessing volatile trade. At 2:54 pm, the Sensex was down 54 points at 10096 and the Nifty down 9 points at 2,972.

The market breadth was negative, about 869 shares have advanced, 1384 shares declined, and 63 shares are unchanged.

Reliance Comm, HDFC, ONGC, HDFC Bank, SAIL, HPCL and Jet Airways were the biggest losers on the indices.

However, top gainers were TCS, BHEL, Bajaj Auto, Wipro, VSNL, ABB and Dabur India.

Auto, FMCG, capital goods, technology and oil stocks have bounced back. However, banking, metal and pharma stocks were still in red.

Cement companies cut prices in Mumbai by Rs 2-4 per bag

Pfizer registerd net profit of Rs 35.9 crore (Rs 359 million) as against of Rs 15.5 crore (Rs 155 million) in the same period of last year. Its net sales are up at Rs 167.1 crore (Rs 1.67 billion) from Rs 135 crore (Rs 1.35 billion).

PSL's Q4 net profit is up at Rs 15.76 crore (Rs 157.6 million) from Rs 7 crore (Rs 70 million). Its Q4 revenue is down at Rs 470 crore (Rs 4.70 billion) from Rs 570 crore (Rs 5.70 billion).

Sensex @ 1353 hrs

The markets have recovered their losses, however volatility is still being seen.

At 1.53 pm, the Sensex was up 6.79 points or 0.07% at 10,157.8, and the Nifty up 2.65 points or 0.09% at 2985.1.

About 773 shares have advanced, 1443 shares declined, and 62 shares are unchanged.
Bajaj Auto, BHEL, Wipro, Reliance Energy, VSNL, Dabur India and Wipro were top gainers on the indices.

VSNL was quoting at Rs 407.50, up Rs 23.35, or 6.08%.

Bajaj Auto was quoting at Rs 2,664, up Rs 73.70, or 2.85%.

Sensex @ 1331 hrs

The markets were trading in negative terrain. At 1:31 pm, the Sensex was down 40 points at 10,110 and the Nifty at 2,971, down 10 points.

The market breadth was negative, about 689 shares have advanced, 1472 shares declined, and 64 shares are unchanged.

Top losers were Reliance Comm, HDFC, ONGC, Dr Reddy's Labs, SAIL and HPCL.

However, Wipro, Bajaj Auto, Reliance Energy, BHEL, VSNL and Dabur India were the biggest gainers.

Banking, metal were the biggest losers. Some selling was also seen in auto, capital goods, technology, FMCG, oil stocks.

Indiabulls was trading at Rs 252.30, up Rs 3, or 1.20%. ITC was trading at Rs 175.75, down Rs 0.45, or 0.26%. Geodesic Information Systems was trading at Rs 152.95, up Rs 2.90, or 1.93%. Kotak Mahindra Bank was trading at Rs 225, down Rs 5.9, or 2.56%.

Sintex India was trading at Rs 154.65, down Rs 2.95, or 1.87%. GAIL has signed exploration, production pact for Oman oil block.

Sensex @ 1230 hrs

The markets were trading in rangebound area on lower levels. At 12:30 pm, the Sensex was down 115 points at 10,035. The Nifty has slipped 36 points at 2945.

The market breadth was negative, about 557 shares have advanced, 1508 shares declined, and 57 shares are unchanged.

Biggest losers on the indices were Reliance Comm, HDFC, ONGC, Dr Reddy's Labs, ICICI Bank, SAIL, HPCL and Bharti Airtel.

However, Reliance Energy, Bajaj Auto, BHEL, Maruti Udyog, Hero Honda, VSNL, Dabur India and Tata Power were the top gainers.

All BSE indices are still in the red. Metal, banking, consumer durables, pharma and oil stocks were the major losers.

Sensex @ 1114 hrs

Markets are still trading in red on the back of selling pressure.

At 11.14 am, the Sensex was down 120.39 points or 1.19% at 10030.62, and the Nifty down 40 points or 1.34% at 2942.45.

About 392 shares have advanced, 1443 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged.

All the BSE sectoral indices were trading in red.

The BSE Metal index was down by 1.84% at 7948.69. The BSE Bankex was also down by 1.84% at 4244.02.

The BSE Consumer Durables index was down by 1.73% at 2617.24.

The BSE Health Care and IT index was down by 1.01% at 3052.2 and 1.09% at 3532.74 respectively.

Some selling was also seen in auto, oil & gas, capital goods and FMCG stocks.

HDFC, Reliance Comm, ONGC, SBI, HPCL, SAIL and Bharti Airtel were top loser on the indices.

HDFC was quoting at Rs 1,045, down Rs 44.9, or 4.12%.  Reliance Communications was quoting at Rs 221, down Rs 7.9, or 3.45%.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 245.50, down 3.67% from its previous close of Rs 254.85.

Sensex @ 1043 hrs

The markets have recovered from lower levels. At 10:43 am, the Sensex was down 91 points at 10,059. The Nifty has dropped 31 points to 2950.

Top losers were HDFC, Reliance Comm, Tata Steel, Wipro, Bharti Airtel, HPCL, SAIL and Suzlon Energy.

However, Maruti Udyog, Hero Honda, Ranbaxy Labs, HDFC Bank, Reliance, Tata Power, M&M and ABB were the biggest gainers on the indices.

All BSE Indices were trading in the red. The BSE Metal Index was down 1.95%, as selling seen in JSW Steel, Sesa Goa, Jindal Saw, SAIL, Tata Steel, Guj NRE Coke, Sterlite Ind, Nalco and Hind Zinc.

Banking stocks like Union Bank, Kotak Mahindra, SBI, ICICI Bank, Bank of India, PNB and Andhra Bank.

The BSE Bankex has plunged 1.54%.

Sensex @ 0957 hrs

The markets have opened on negative note, as global cues are down ahead of Fed meeting on hike in interest rates.

At 9:57 am, the Sensex was down 241 points at 9909 in the morning trade. The Nifty has also slipped 69 points at 2913.

Tata Steel, Reliance comm, Hindalco, VSNL, SAIL, HCL Tech, HLL, Suzlon Energy, HDFC, ABB, Jet Airways, ITC, ONGC, Infosys, Satyam, Wipro and Reliance were down in the opening trade.

Asian markets were trading lower; Nikkei was down over 250 points.

Wall Street ended down, Dow Jones slipped 121 points.
