Sensex sheds 143 pts; ends at 9981

All-round selling dragged the Sensex to a low of 9970. The index finally ended with a huge loss of 143 points at 9981.

Grasim led the fall with a loss of 4.8% at Rs 1,616.

Hindalco slumped 3.8% to Rs 154. While Hero Honda plunged 3.5% to Rs 889, Tata Motors tumbled 3.4% to Rs 773.

ITC (Rs 162), HLL (Rs 232), HDFC (Rs 1,300) and ONGC (Rs 1,120) shed 3%

each.

Tata Power and Larsen & Toubro declined 2.5% to Rs 488 and Rs 2,286, respectively.

Cipla, NTPC, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance Energy, Tata Steel, SBI and ACC were down 1-2% each.

Wipro and Ranbaxy, however, bucked the trend and finished with gains of nearly 2% each at Rs 499 and Rs 440, respectively.

Bajaj Auto, too, rallied over 1% to Rs 2,401.
