Satyam Computer Services chairman B Ramalinga Raju has been named as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur for the year year 2007.
Nine other entrepreneurs received awards across various categories today.
Vice President M Hamid Ansari and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit were the guests of honour at the event.
The selection jury was chaired by K V Kamath, managing director and CEO, ICICI Bank.
The jury members included Ashish Dhawan, senior managing director, ChrysCapital, Keki Dadiseth, managing director, Omnicom, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairman and managing director, Biocon, Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman and managing director, Aditya Birla Group and S Ramadorai, chief executive, TCS.
The jury unanimously considered two new award categories, Social Entrepreneurship, and Infrastructure and Construction. About 400 top industrialists and leading corporate personalities participated in the event, the only global business award programme in India.
Ramalinga Raju will now represent India at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the year Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco in May 2008.
Ernst & Young first initiated the Entrepreneur of the Year award in the United States in 1986 to honour brilliant entrepreneurs.
The programme was launched in India in 1999. Some of the past recipients include Tulsi Tanti, Sunil Mittal, Ratan Tata, NR Narayana Murthy, BL Munjal and Mukesh Ambani.
