February 09, 2004 17:50 IST

IT major Satyam Computer Services Ltd on Monday announced the launch of its development centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

The centre, housed in a 4,000 sq ft location, would be primarily used as a software development centre and can accommodate about 40 to 50 IT professionals, a company press release said in Hyderabad.

The development centre was formally inaugurated by Mayor Hazel McCallion of Mississauga on February 6.

"We are excited about the impact that Satyam will have on the city of Mississauga and appreciate their commitment in opening a world-class technology centre in Canada. Missisauga is a technology leader in Canada and we are confident that Satyam's presence here will enhance the reputation," Hazel McCallion said.

Sanjay Tugnalt, the country manager, said, "Through the encouragement of our clients, we decided to set up the development centre before schedule in early 2004. We strategically moved elements of our service offerings that would not only add value, but also enable our local operations to bring better and faster services to our Canadian clients."

Over 40 senior executives from Satyam's computers were present on the occasion, the release said.
