Samsung to launch touchscreen phone at Rs 24,000

Electronics major Samsung on Monday said it will launch a high-end fully touchscreen mobile handset in India by the end of this month.

The device - Samsung Jet - launched on Monday during the ongoing technology event CommunicAsia in Singapore, would be priced at Rs 24,150 in India.

Samsung, which currently has a market share of 10-15 per cent in India, plans to launch the product in the Indian market in the last week of June. The phone has a 3.1 inch display and boost of a 5 mega pixel camera.

It also has a host of multimedia features including a 5 mega-pixel camera, built-in GPS and video support for hassel-free video downloading and viewing. In the India market most of the handset majors are betting big on the touchscreen mobile devices.

Samsung vice president (Global Marketing group) Younghee Lee said "We are glad to launch the newest touch screen phone…and believe that touchscreen is the right future for the company."

She added that the phone's features and easy-to-use user interface reflects Samsung's consumer-oriented strategy.
