Samsonite, the luggage bags maker, is aiming at over 30 per cent sales growth to Rs 120 crore (Rs 1.20 billion) next year, mainly through a spurt in sales of its new mid-segment premium range - American Tourister.
The United States-based company would heavily bank on the new range as the Rs 200 crore (Rs 2 billion) mid-segment was growing very fast, E P Suresh Menon, executive director, Samsonite, told reporters in New Delhi.
The company sold luggage bags worth Rs 90 crore (Rs 900 million) in the Indian market this year.
Samsonite has been able to position itself in the second slot after the market leader VIP.
"We hold 20 per cent market share which we aim to raise to 40 per cent by 2005, overtaking the current market leader," Menon said.
Samsonite aims at Rs 200 crore domestic sales by 2005, he said, adding by then it would command the leadership in the Indian market.
The company started operations seven years ago and started earning profit from last year. The profit margins stand at 5-7 per cent range, he added.
