After the launch of a range of personal computers in the Indian market, Sahara Computers is planning to foray into manufacturing of board level computer components.

We plan to get in to manufacture of board level computer components like mother boards in the next financial year," George Van Der Merwe, chief operation officer of Sahara Computers in India said.

By getting into the manufacture of board level components, Sahara Computers, a 50-50 joint venture between Sahara Group of India and South African Sahara Group, will be getting in to an area where no PC assembler in India has entered.

Only two companies - Digigiga and Simtronics - are manufacturing board level components in India.

Apart from internal consumption, Sahara will also supply components coming out of its facility to other players.

The company,
which launched its personal computers and servers early this month, said it would come out with its range of lifestyle products in July.

"We plan to launch digital cameras, MP3 players, plasma televisions and multifunctional devices next month," Van Der Merwe said.

He said Sahara wants to address every end of the market. "We would rely on channel partners and Sahara India's retail presence to sell our products. The company wants to position itself as a solutions company.

Sahara has priced its products below what the other companies selling personal computers in India charge. Van Der Merwe, however, said the company would not be a price warrior but would focus on quality of its products.

"We may offer price discounts as a temporary measure but we want to rely on our product quality to penetrate the Indian market. We want to develop the Indian market," he added.
