Rs 100 cr for amenities in S Railway

A trainThe Southern Railway would spend Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) this fiscal to develop various passenger amenities, according to a top official.

The amount is from a total of Rs 19,000 crore (Rs 190 billion) granted by the Railway ministry to Southern Railway for various works like gauge conversion and construction of railway stations.

A number of developmental works had already been undertaken in this regard, Deepak Kishan, general manager, Southern Railway said on Tuesday night.

He was speaking after inaugurating a park, bus shelters and an air-conditioned passengers waiting room at Erode Junction.

He
also planted tree saplings before the Railway Junction.

Earlier, A Ganeshamurthi, MP submitted a memorandum to the General Manager, seeking stoppage of Coimbatore-Tirupathi tri-weekly Intercity express train here, to which Kishan said he would take it up with the Railway Ministry.

At present, the train starts from Coimbatore and stops only in Salem. In the return direction, it stops at Salem and in Coimbatore.

The Congress Minority wing also presented a memorandum with the same demand.
