Reliance Infocomm Ltd has launched an exchange scheme, offering migration to existing customers to opt for higher-end camera and videophones, while the private telephony major will refund the entire amount paid for existing handsets.

"The new scheme is being launched to reward our early customers, who had become subscribers during the first year of operations itself," Reliance Infocomm president (wireless products and services) S P Shukla told PTI in Mumbai on Monday.

Under the offer, customers who had activated the company's services on or before April 30, 2004, can exchange their existing black and white handset for colour handset, with options including video camera phones, he said.

Reliance Infocomm would also offer credit for the new handsets, even as it would adjust the entire amount paid for the earlier handset, Shukla said.

The entire price of old handset, without deducting depreciation or any other charges, is being offered by the company, he said, adding "this is in stark contrast" to the prevailing exchange schemes.

Reliance Infocomm is offering Kyocera 7135 (PDA colour phone), Samsung SCH A603, LG RD 7230 and two models of G Tran GCP4020 (camera phones) and Telson TWC 1150 (watch phone) under the scheme.

The company, which launched its commercial operations in May 2003, is offering this under its anniversary scheme, he said.
