Govt for opening up retail trade

The government on Friday favoured opening up retail trade and asked the domestic companies to come forward, which will lead to greater inflow of foreign direct investment and improvement in quality and services.

Speaking at a panel discussion organised by Standing Conference of Public Enterprises in New Delhi, S N Menon, special secretary, ministry of commerce, said the internal reform process must continue.

He said coalition building was extremely important to India which was a member of the alliance of G-16 on Singapore issues and G-20 for agriculture.

Menon said the positive development which took place for negotiations before the Ministerial meeting in Cancun was intense consultation process with stakeholders.
