Hero Honda Q1 net up 20%

Hero Honda Motors Ltd on Wednesday reported a 20 per cent growth in net profit for the quarter ended June 2004 at Rs 190 crore (Rs 1.90 billion) against Rs 158 crore (Rs 1.58 billion) in the corresponding period last year, buoyed by a 33 per cent surge in motorcycle sales volume.

The country's biggest bike maker, in which the Munjals and Japan's Honda Motor Co. hold 26 per cent stake each, saw net sales (income from operations) in the period go up by 30 per cent to Rs 1,722 crore (Rs 17.22 billion) against Rs 1,324 crore (Rs 13.24 billion) in April-June 2003.

The company's bike sales volume in the period jumped 33 per cent at 609,123 units against 458,779 units in the first three months of last fiscal.
