Reliance Infocomm has said it reported over 10 million content downloads on the very first day of introducing 'Navratri,' a multi-media mobile service offering ring tones, greeting cards, pictures and video clips of Navratri festival.

This is a record in the growing field of mobile data services in India, the company said.

The company launched the service on Reliance IndiaMobile on Saturday.

Gujarat accounted for the highest volume of traffic.

Mahesh Prasad, president, application services, Reliance Infocomm, said, "This is a record for a single new mobile data service launch on mobile networks anywhere in the world. This is a testimony of our subscriber base getting increasingly accustomed to various services."

The company has introduced 20 new services and games in the last 30 days, the official said.

Prasad said 50,000 users responded, without any incentive, to an instant poll on 'Up to what time should playing loud music be allowed during Navratri?'

About 30 per cent of the traffic was from Gujarat and 20 per cent from Maharashtra. The traffic from the rest of India accounted for 50 per cent, the company said.

Users from all over India in large numbers zapped garba and raas picture greetings to friends relatives using the MMS facility, the company said.

The Navratri content will be regularly updated over the next two weeks with new ring tones, pictures, video and other content, the company said.

Many more channels are being added to Navratri sections like contents, garba event finder for different cities, shopping guides, Navratri recipes and ratings for various garba events.

Reliance IndiaMobile network is gearing up for the big festival season ahead with the launch of specific services like Durga Puja and Dusshera this week, the company said.

The java-based suite of Reliance India Mobile Internet application enables the introduction of complex Internet applications on mobile phones quickly and effectively, the company said.
