Plermin's generic name is Recombinant Human Platelet Derived Growth Factor --rhPDGF.

"Plermin, the first rhPDGF in India, is the only growth factor that is widely studied and proven to offer faster healing of ulcers," he added.

The drug would be available as gel 7.5 gm and 15 gm tubes, DRL said in a statement.

Majority of diabetic foot ulcers in India occur on account of neuropathy and it is estimated that approximately 40,000 patients undergo amputations each year, it added.

The company has also launched a social initiative called save the foot to create awareness for early detection and better management of diabetic neuropathy and diabetic foot ulcers, it added.
