Red Cross will launch a global campaign 'Our World Your Move' to encourage people to participate in humanitarian actions aimed at tackling problems of climate change, conflicts and natural disasters.
"The Red Cross is launching the initiative on Saturday to commemorate three landmark anniversaries this year. The campaign is meant to engage people in the spirit of volunteerism and empowering them to make a difference," it said.
Everybody must work with the communities to make people better prepared to cope with current and emerging crisis, the release added.
The people are facing several problems, including displacement, diseases, increasing disasters, lack of clean water, food shortage, rising violence and grinding poverty.
The campaign assumes significance as this year marks 150th anniversary of the Battle of Solferino, which inspired Henry Dunant to form the International Red Cross and Red Crescent.
The year also marks 90th anniversary of the founding of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the 60th anniversary of the ratification of the Geneva Conventions that govern the rule of war and conflict globally.
