Wipro chairman Azim Premji has projected IT software and IT-enabled services exports to touch $19-20 billion this fiscal.
The whole IT industry is expected to grow at 22-25 per cent per annum in the next four to five years, Premji said on the sidelines of a convocation function of the Institute of Management Technology in Gaziabad on Monday evening.
He based his assessment on a McKinsey report.
Nasscom has earlier forecast a 35 per cent growth for software and services exports at $17.3 billion this fiscal.
The apex industry association has put the earnings of the entire domestic IT industry, including hardware, at $28.2 billion.
The industry had registered a growth of 34 per cent in the previous fiscal, clocking revenues of $21.5 billion.
Premji advocated a level playing field for domestic IT hardware manufacturers vis-a-vis foreign players.
"We have put our demands (for the Budget 2004-05) before the government and it is sensitive to the issue," he said.
When asked whether duty rationalisation will have any impact on computer prices, he said, "The duties are already very low. Any such measures will have just two to three per cent impact."
On the forthcoming Budget, he said the government wants more growth and compliance to tax systems. "You will find a positive Budget," he said.
