Dabhol Power Project, rechristened as Ratnagiri Gas Power Pvt Ltd, commenced power generation on Monday, with 30-60 MW of electricity and the production would touch 220 MW by next week.

"The test synchronisation for the 220 MW gas turbine-2A started Sunday night. Actual power generation began around 8 AM Monday. We have generated more that 30 MW electricity and look forward to touch 60 MW by tonight," a source said.

The NTPC team, which is working at the project aims to utilise the total 220 MW capacity of this turbine by next week, they added.

Presently, oil will be used to power the turbine for the first 10 days, instead of naptha which would be used for the next 40-45 days. However, the energy produced on Monday was not supplied to the power grid and instead was used for project's internal demands, the sources said.

Confirming the development at the project site, RGPPL CEO Chandan Roy said, "It is very difficult to say what output we would be generating from first day. But, we are doing our best to regenerate power from the project."

Earlier during the day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshukh expressed hope to generate the total 740 MW electricity from the project, few weeks after its commencement.
