Inverters and stand-by generator producers have witnessed an impressive growth in sales during the last two months, when the national capital was facing severe power-cuts.
In fact the sales doubled during this period in comparison to the corresponding period last year, traders say.
According to Kunwar Sachdev of Su-Kam, who is into inverter manufacturing, there are four to five major players in inverter business in Delhi. The sale of inverters in Delhi market was about 32,000 pieces worth Rs 12.5 crore (Rs 125 million) in 2004.
However, about 28,000 pieces of inverters worth Rs 11.1 crore (Rs 111 million) has been sold out in the national capital in the period April to September 10, 2005. He said Delhi was a major market for inverters constituting eight per cent of the total business in the country.
He says that inverters are fast becoming a household commodity. "Frequent power cuts have made inverters a basic necessity in Delhi. In search of alternative power supply people are preferring to buy inverters," he says.
"Earlier the period from April to July was the peak season for sale of the inverters. But of late this has changed and we are witnessing heavy sale every month. The sale has been tremendous in last July and August," he remarks.
