The government on Thursday ruled out the possibility of privatising postal services in the country.
"There is no proposal as yet to privatise postal services," Communications Minister Arun Shourie said during the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha.
Replying to supplementaries, he said only a certain postal sector had been opened up through courier service.
He said at present there were 2,300 courier services in the country and their activities were unregulated.
Shourie said post offices would be modernised so that they could become commercial hubs.
