Villagers protesting the location of South Korean steel major Posco's proposed 12 million tonne steel project near here blocked all major roads leading to the project site after Orissa government issued land acquisition notice.

Activists of the Posco Sangram Samiti put up three blockade points at Dhinkia, Gadakujanga and Gobindpur prohibiting the entry of all 'government officials' assigned to facilitate the Posco project.

In the first week of May, Orissa government had issued the customary 'four-one notice' to acquire land in the area where the Dhinkia, Nuagaon and Gadakujanga gram panchayats are located.

Posco India will require around 4,004 acres of land for the greenfield steel project and associated facilities.  "We will not let any government official enter the area for acquiring land for the Posco project. The gates at the three points are being manned by women," an activist of PSS said.

On May 27, the PSS had passed a resolution not to allow any administrative officer or police enter the project site. The agitation took place close on the heels of the Kalinganagar incident in Jajpur district in which protesting tribals clashed with police over the location of a steel project of a domestic major leading to police firing. Thirteen people were killed in the Kalinganagar incident.
