Pritish Nandy Communications is looking at setting up an overseas distribution unit. The investment for the unit is pegged at Rs 30 crore (Rs 300 million).
According to Pritish Nandy, chairman, PNC, "The overseas distribution arena has not been properly exploited. The current pattern is still very conventional. We are currently in the planning stages of getting into full-fledged international distribution of movies."
Nandy said that the company would invest close to Rs 30 crore in this new venture and the money would be mobilised from internal accruals and debts.
The company is in talks with Hollywood studios in the US to form an alliance for distribution of Bollywood movies abroad. Nandy stated that the deal would firm up in the next 6-8 months.
Explaining the scope of the international market, Nandy pointed out that week-on-week Bollywood films would make it to the UK's top 10 flicks and in the US, in the top 20.
PNC will first look at exploiting the UK and the US markets before venturing into other areas.
"The aim is to distribute 10-12 movies a year which should contribute about 25 per cent of PNC's overall revenue.
PNC's sole revenue stream is film production, the latest being Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena. Some of the films produced by PNC are Chameli, Shabd, Jhankar Beats, Bollywood Calling, Popcorn Khao and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi.
