Plan panel members allotted work

The government has allocated work to various members of the Planning Commission. Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Aluwalia will directly handle the states of Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister of State for Planning MV Rajasekharan will handle Parliament matters, communication, infotech and  information and broadcasting.

Kirit Parikh will be in charge of perspective planning, energy and water resources.

He will also handle the state plans for Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Karnataka. Abhijit Sen, former professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been given charge of agriculture, development policy and financial resources.

Additionally, he will handle the state plans for Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Jharkand. Anwar-ul-Hoda will be in-charge of international economics, industry and minerals, transport, urban development and housing and tourism. The Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and West Bengal state plans will be under his purview.

BL Mungekar will handle labour and employment, education, tribal development and social justice and empowerment. State plans for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Kerala are also part of his brief.

BN Yugandhar will handle rural development, panchayati raj, multi-level planning, the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana and the issue of regional disparities.

He will also handle the state plans for Maharashtra, Gujarat, the Northeast and Sikkim. VL Chopra will handle science and technology, agricultural research and environment and forests.

The Punjab, Delhi and Goa state plans will fall under his purview.

Health and family Welfare, the National Commission of Population, non-government organisations, and small entrepreneurs and women and child development will be handled by Syeda Hameed.

She will also handle state plans for Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
