Yunique: Attractive features at an affordable price

October 05, 2015 12:13 IST

Yunique not only delivers quality at a low price but at the same time steers ahead in the price war, notes  Kakoli Chakraborty.

With the recently launched Yunique, Micromax's Yu brand is three phones old.

While the Yureka and Yuphoria generated a lot of buzz, the Yunique is aimed to reinvent the word affordability. But more on that later.

The Yunique is similar to the Yuphoria in design. The rubberised matte finish back panel and round edges gives it the appearance of the Yuphoria but holding it in your hands makes the difference clear; instead of metal, the Yunique has a plastic frame.

The power button has been placed on the right side between the volume controls. The removable back panel reveals two SIM and one microSD slots, and keeping with the trend, a non-removable battery.

The phone has a 4.7-inch 720p HD IPS display and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

This is one of the few "low-range" phones which has a 720p display. This provides for a crisp display and balanced colour reproduction.

The 8-megapixel (MP) primary camera is decent but not extraordinary, which is all right considering the price of the phone.

It has a 2MP secondary camera with which you can click selfies and then enhance them using the beauty mode.

The 2,000-mAh battery provides for sufficient amount of backup. If the usage is not too web-heavy, the phone can last almost a day on full charge.

The phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with stock Android apps.

However, the most attractive feature is neither the hardware nor the software, it is the price.

At Rs 4,999, the Yunique not only delivers quality at a low price but at the same time steers ahead in the price war for the low-range segment of smartphones.

The price, along with the performance, makes the Yunique very desirable. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best options under Rs 5,000.
