Hyundai Verna has oomph but is not the best-handling sedan

Hyundai Verna had once outpaced the Honda City in its sales numbers. But how reliable is the Verna auto in the long run?

Hyundai has always gained fame and success with its Verna model in the Indian market since many years.

First it was the power of 110 horses on the first Verna and the Fluidic Verna won several hearts.

The Verna MY 2014 has undergone some minor changes for its previous year models.

It looks much smarter and practical than before.

The updated version now gets daytime running LEDs, automatic projector headlamps and machine-finished alloy wheels which adds on to the car’s oomph factor.

Rest of the exterior remains unchanged.

Coming to its interior, again there are no evident changes. It gets the same two-tone dash with wooden trims and chrome lining which gives a very appealing look to the console as well.

The fit and finish of the controls and the overall quality is also impressing apart from the plastic ware buttons of the air-con knobs, which look a bit on the cheaper side of the plastic.

The leather stitched steering and the gear knob gives a premium feel to the driver.

The front seats are big enough and hug you tight and give a very good comfort to the driver.

The rear seats are not too comfortable as they are made a little low, below the window line and also make you feel short of space and air thus feels claustrophobic.

What Verna has in surplus are features : keyless entry, climatic control, a rear view camera with good resolution, easily accessible entertainment system with Bluetooth connectivity.

It helps to sync your phone contacts and music but one cannot skip or change tracks directly through the steering mounted controls and have to return to the phone to change music.

It also features four airbags for passenger safety.

This car comes with a 1.6-litre diesel with a four-speed automatic transmission, which produces 130bhp.

This engine produces sufficient amount of power in both highway and city condition.

Talking about highway drive, the Verna will not disappoint you ever.

It helps to sync your phone contacts and music but one cannot skip or change tracks directly through the steering mounted controls and have to return to the phone to change music.

The ride sometimes gets bumpy too. But city ride is convenient with this automatic transmission and you would love to take it in crowded.

Hyundai has also taken care of its mileage by tuning a four-speed gearbox.

It s gives an average of 12-13km/l in city and 16-18km/l on highways which are not bad figures for an automatic gearbox at all.

In the updated Hyundai Verna, it has not messed up with its strengths like the looks, the equipment and its refinements.

It has definitely improved in its weakness, which an improvement in the handling though some more work needs to be done.

We look forward for more improvements in terms of handling the car.

Coming to the verdict, I would suggest if one needs a city sedan with loads of features and classy design then Verna is your pick, especially when you want a diesel auto that is reliable, with low maintenance cost.
