Indian pharmaceutical giant, Wockhardt has signed a deal with information technology services provider, Ness Technologies, to install, configure, customise, host and support its US-based financial IT infrastructure, a media report said.

The IT infrastructure to be built by the Nasdaq listed Israeli company will include all financial modules, electronic data interchange, and interfaces to Wockhardt Pharmaceuticals' contract and procurement management systems, business daily Globes reported.

The company did not disclose the value of the deal, the report said.

"We selected Ness for this important project due to their 'SmartSourcing for Life Sciences' offering, which combines project management and domain expertise in the United States and cost-effective development teams in India to develop the solution," Suresh Shenoy, vice president, information technology, said.

"Developing this solution for Wockhardt using the Ness 'SmartSourcing for Life Sciences' hybrid offering is an important win for Ness as we continue to grow our life sciences and offshore/outsourcing practices," said Ness Life Sciences Solutions managing director David Kubersky.

"We are continuing discussions with a number of life sciences firms looking to combine IT solution development with more cost-effective global delivery methods," Kubersky added.

The work on the project kicked off last month and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2005, with maintenance and enhancements continuing throughout the next year and beyond.

The contract brought the Tel Aviv and New Jersey headquartered Ness Technologies its tenth new client in the life sciences industry during 2004.

According to the report, the company boasts of having six of the top ten pharmaceuticals companies of the world as its present or past clients. Among the leading companies currently engaged with Ness include, Allergan, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Emisphere, Metaphore, and Pfizer.

Ness, with operations in 14 countries worldwide, has nearly 20 years of experience in developing innovative solutions for life sciences firms.

It has a CMM Level 5 secure, extended development centre in Mumbai as well as an additional development centre in Bangalore.
