The Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma said on Friday that he would soon make public the names and other details of the major provident fund defaulters.
"I will hold a separate press conference to give the details of the big defaulters," Verma told reporters in New Delhi, after the 162nd meeting of the Central Board of Trustees of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation.
Earlier, the former chief vigilance commissioner, N Vittal, who is now the chairman of CBT's IT taskforce, had made public the names of tainted officials of public sector organisations.
"We will initiate legal actions against the major defaulters," Verma said, adding he was going to reveal the amounts that were due and the actions that the EPFO had taken in this regard.
The EPFO sources welcomed such a move and said that it would not only ensure transparency in the organisation's dealing with the defaulters but also create fear among the "big fishes".
Verma said as much as Rs 1,200 crore (Rs 12 billion) had been locked up as arrears and the recovery had to be further enhanced.
