Pepsi has set up its research centre in China, first of its kind outside the US, to develop food and beverages to suit the tastes of 1.3 billion Chinese consumers.
"Every market demands its own flavour of food and beverages. We will put more such products on the Chinese market this year," said Luo Enyu, head of the research centre, which will be based in Shanghai, the communist giant's largest metropolis in eastern China.
Researchers will come from all over China to develop products for different parts of the country, Luo said.
Pepsi has also built a world-class laboratory in Shanghai to analyse and improve food and beverages.
As one of the first foreign firms to enter China, Pepsi has made a total investment exceeding $1 billion and set up more than 40 subsidiaries and joint ventures in the world's most populous nation.
