PeopleSoft to hire more in India

June 10, 2004 15:43 IST

The United States-based business application software vendor PeopleSoft will increase its headcount in India to 1,000 by the end of 2004.

"By the end of 2004 our headcount in India will increase from 360 at present to 1,000. We want to expand the market aggressively and as we introduce more products more customers will be attracted," Thiru Vengadam, Country Manager, PeopleSoft India, said.

PeopleSoft, which employs 360 people for development and support functions in partnership with Covansys and Hexaware at Bangalore, said it would ramp up in India fast as it wanted to expand aggressively.

The company runs India Services Centre in partnership with Hexaware and India Development Centre in association with Covansys on Build Operate Transfer model.

"Even for expansion we will use the same partners," Vengadam said. "Our strategy is to go with the partners and gain market share."

He said PeopleSoft is looking at more verticals in India. "Merger with J D Edwards was part of the expansionist strategy. After the completion of merger of J D Edwards with PeopleSoft, we have got expertise in manufacturing too.

PeopleSoft already has considerable strength in services. "With strategic partners we want to get into financial sector, government and telecom among others," he said.
