Showing growth for the third successive quarter, Indian PC market registered a 12 per cent rise in the fourth (Oct-Dec) quarter on a year-on-year basis totalling 580,000 units with Hewlett Packard leading the market with a 8.6 per cent share, according to IDC's latest survey.

The growth was three per cent sequentially, it said.

However, it said as against trends seen in the previous quarters, 'run rate business' witnessed a sequential decline and though the quarter saw closing of many big deals especially in the finance and telecom segment, it was unable to boost growth.

A total of 5,60,758 desktops and 14,481 portables were sold during the quarter posting a 74 per cent rise in year-on-year growth. The PC server market posted a negative growth of 8.6 per cent at 8,164 units.

Although Indian PC market has continued to show signs of improvement, the recovery has been slow and lack of big deals coupled with postponement of buying decisions continues to plague the market, IDC said.

Attractive price points, new technology, and an expected increase in IT spending should help to continue growth in the upcoming quarters although an uncertain global scenario could mute expectation, Aman Munglani, head, computing product research, IDC India, said.
