Park Group plans aerospace academy

January 16, 2006 19:29 IST

The Park Group of Institutions has tied up with Link Aero Technologies of Malaysia and Groupe Aviation of Bangalore to set up an aviation and aerospace academy of higher engineering in Coimbatore, at an outlay of $10 million.

Park College of Engineering and Technology currently offers graduate and postgraduate courses in aerospace engineering, besides specialised courses on manufacturing and activities related to aeronautics for employees of various companies including HAL, a Park Group statement said.

The proposed integrated flight-training academy would cater to the entire human resources' requirement of an airline. It will have two divisions -- one to train pilots and the other for ground staff, it said.

"The academy would be of international standards, with modern teaching aids such as computer-based training, cockpit procedural trainers and maintenance trainers and simulators", said Dr K Ramchand, former director of DRDO and currently head of Groupe Aviation, Bangalore.

The institute, expected to commence operations in March, will initially train 100 pilots a year and 30 licensed aircraft maintenance engineers per batch.
