Fifty-day-old Akshita has become the youngest Permanent Account Number Card holder in the country, beating the record set by Mumbai's Krishhey Thacker.

The baby girl, born on June 20, 2007, received the card on August 3 when she was just 44-day-old. Her father, S Balamurugan, an employee in the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, told PTI that he had decided to make investments in his child's name for her secure future.

"As I was told that PAN was essential to invest in mutual funds and stocks, I applied for one for my baby," he said. Akshita has beaten the record set by two-month-old Thacker recently.

Insisting that he did not apply for PAN card for the sake of setting a record, Balamurugan said, "however, we're thrilled that our baby has become a record holder".
