Fiat India on Friday said that it would roll out a petrol variant of the Palio next month as part of the efforts to improve its market share in the competitive compact car segment.

The company also said that it was committed to the Indian market and would continue to launch new cars based on the popular '178 platform'.

"Fiat is committed to succeed in India, with a clear roadmap in place to aggressively achieve our target. We are proceeding as per our plan, which includes a renewed focus on our after sales service and the introduction of new products on the 178 platform. The new variant of the Palio is an integral part of this plan," Fiat India chairman and managing director Alberto Montanari said in a statement in New Delhi.

He said that the work on the new car was on since the last six months.

Details like the name of the new car and advertising campaign was being worked out, Montanari said.

The Indian subsidiary of Italian carmaker Fiat SpA had already launched diesel models of Palio and Adventure to expand its product portfolio in the diesel segment.

Fiat India also produces the compact car Uno, mid-size Siena and station wagon Siena Weekend at its plant in Kurla (Mumbai).
