An MoU was signed between India's Department of Consumer Affairs and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission last week at the Commission's headquarters in Washington DC to pave the way for Indo-US cooperation in this area, an official release said.
Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs L Mansingh signed the MoU on behalf of government of India, while chairman CPSC Hal Stratton signed it on behalf of the US federal government.
The agreement besides improving the standards of consumer product safety in India, would also assist Indian exporters to gain greater acceptability in the US market by complying with US standards for consumer product safety.
The cooperation agreement would also give fillip to the efforts of Department of Consumer Affairs in setting up a similar institution in India to effectively deal with consumer product safety.
