Oxford University has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry to set up India Business Centre.

The MoU was signed by CII president Sunil Bharti Mittal and Dr John Hood, vice chancellor, University of Oxford.

"The primary objective of this research centre is to learn from India's business success," Hood said after signing the MoU.

The centre would address major business policy questions through collaborative research between academicians in Oxford and India.

Hood said a clear understanding of these issues will form a guide to countries attempting to record a growth similar to India which is making a transition from poverty to prosperity.

Professor Roy Westbrook, Dean of Development and External Relations of Oxford Said Business School told PTI that the centre in India could be located either in New Delhi or Mumbai and at the Oxford University in the UK.

"A final decision is yet to be taken on the location of the centre in India. But we will be physically present in India and do research around India, be it in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai or Kolkata," Westbrook said.

Oxford University's Said School is Europe's fastest growing business school, with a reputation for innovative business education.

"The link between CII and Oxford University's India Business Centre represents a milestone in building bridges between British academic institutions and Indian business," CII president Sunil Bharti Mittal said.
