The bookstore has already tied up franchisees for stores in five cities -- Guwahati, Kochi, Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Pune -- to be launched in this financial year.
On Thursday, Oxford launched a store in new format in Kolkata, Oxford Junior. Priti Paul, director, Apeejay Surrendra group, said Chennai would have another Oxford bookstore by October, which would complete its chain of company-owned Oxfords across all the metros.
Two formats were being weighed for franchised bookstores. One, a downtown Oxford bookstore model, which would be centrally located in metros.
The other model would have the same look and feel of a downtown bookstore but the spend per sq ft would be a lot less, Paul said.
The space for the stores would range from 1,500 sq ft to 3,000
The group would introduce two new formats this year. Paul said. Oxford Junior in Kolkata was a pilot project with books ideal for 0 to 18 years.
Another one would be Oxford Express spread over 500 sq ft. "It would be like a news agent bookstore," she said. The first one would come up at a shopping mall in Bangalore and the second at Fame Adlabs in Delhi.
Paul said there could be a deal with national chain of multiplexes or outlets for the Oxford Express.
Oxford Bookstore began operations over 80 years ago in Kolkata.
