Oracle is looking at acquiring land at Bangalore to further cement its operations down south along with the new development centre at Hyderabad which is slated to be operational in next few months.

The plans for Bangalore are still at an initial stage but with the new building coming up at Hyderabad all the operations there would consolidate into one hub.

Declining to give details of future hiring plans, Krishnan Dhawan who took over as the managing director of Oracle's Indian operations this month said, "We have a strong team of 6900 employees in India and the growth is in line with growth in revenues."

Outlining Oracle's focus in India going forward, Keith Budge, Senior vice president, Oracle Asia pacific today said that the company was looking at government business, the growth in telecom sector and opportunities in banking space as key growth drivers apart from opportunities in the Small and medium Enterprises (SMEs) space.

The other area where Oracle saw more business opportunities included water supply management which Budge indicated offered a lot of opportunities in information management.

"In the area of Packing application development there is significant competition from SAP", Budge said while talking about specific challenges from competition.

With 90 per cent of the people from PeopleSoft retained after the merger, Budge said the company was looking at acquisition and organic growth to expand further.

Quoting from the recent IDC's worldwide report, Budge said, "Oracle has a market share of 41.3 per cent in the Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) market."
