Sensex: BJP alleges a politician's son gained

October 18, 2007 19:55 IST

A senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader alleged that the son of a prominent Congress politician gained in Thursday's stock market crash, which saw the Sensex shedding over a thousand points.

"The finance minister owes it to the nation and must explain why he did not take corrective measures soon after he heard about the market crash and why it took him more than one and a half hour -- time enough for a powerful politician's son to recover lost money -- before the market took an upward swing again," asked a senior BJP leader.

"We demand a Joint Parliamentary probe into the crash because the market had to be closed to allow the recovery time," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told rediff.com.

He claimed that the small investors lost huge amount of money during the one and a half hours when the market crashed.
