Government said on Tuesday it was commited to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's mega investment plans in petrochemical projects and special economic zone at Mangalore and there was no going back on it.

"Government is committed to this project," Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha.

ONGC, which has a 9.69 million tonnes refinery at Mangalore, has proposed to set up petrochemical units in the Mangalore SEZ.

Deora said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was to lay the foundation stone of the petrochemical complex on June 22 but the function was postponed as his aircraft could not land because of bad weather.

Government is committed to the project and the foundation laying function would take place soon, he added.
