Get loans faster from Oriental Bank

Oriental Bank of Commerce will set up specialised cells for small and medium enterprises and corporate sectors across the country to facilitate faster credit processing for these sectors.

"We plan to form specialised cells, which would carry out marketing activity, follow up loan cases for customers of SMEs and corporate sectors," Allen C A Pereira, executive director, OBC said on Monday adding the cells would also help in speedy processing and approval of loans, while the respective branches would concentrate on their retail banking business.

The cells would be set up at all 29 OBC regional centres in India, he added. OBC also plans to enhance its customer base by 25-30 per cent in the current fiscal from the present eight million with eyeing on low cost deposits.

"Our focus this fiscal would be to increase the strength of saving and current accounts for school children, salaried class etc. It would help in increasing our customer base by 25 to 30 per cent," Pereira said.

The bank would also open 63 new branches including 20 in Punjab in 2006-07. "We have 1,300 branches at present including extension counters and we wish to open an additional 63 branches this year," he added.

Having achieved a business size of Rs 86,000 crore (Rs 860 billion) in the last fiscal, the bank is looking at increasing its business to Rs 1,03,000 crore (Rs 1030 billion) in 2006-07.

It expects 20 per cent growth both in advances and deposits. The bank also plans to open 100 ATMs this year, which would take the total strength of its ATMs to about 700.
