The National Thermal Power Corporation has made it clear to all defaulting states like Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa that it will not supply them with additional power.

At the 115th meeting of the Eastern Regional Electricity Board held in Ranchi recently, the NTPC representative informed the defaulting states that they could not claim additional allocation from the corporation's eastern region-based generating plants as they lacked payment capability and payment scrutiny mechanism.

They had not done anything to settle previous outstanding dues, which had added up to hundreds of crores of rupees.

The NTPC representative said that EREB should also keep in mind the capacity to pay of a particular state while considering its demand for additional allocation of electricity from the NTPC's plants.

The NTPC official said that except West Bengal and Sikkim, no other state of the eastern region had cleared the NTPC's outstanding dues.

The Corporation would continue to supply additional power to the two states of West Bengal and Sikkim as their mode of payment was satisfactory.

However, the EREB after through discussion, rejected NTPC's contention and decided to send a representation to the Central Electricity Authority and the Union ministry of power for a complete and unreduced allocation of electricity generated at the eastern Indian power plants of NTPC to all the constituent states of EREB - Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal and Sikkim.
