Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck where you do not belong,” concludes Infosys executive chairman N R Narayana Murthy in his letter to investors in the annual report for 2013-14.
Since his return to the company in June last year, Infosys has had several rounds of restructuring in the management.
While observers are hopeful these would get the company back on track in the long term, a major fallout has been top-level exits, including of veterans such as V Balakrishnan and Ashok Vemuri, once seen as top contenders for the chief executive’s job.
Undeterred, Murthy has maintained that most of those who left were not contributing to the business much.
Calling Infosys’ performance in 2013-14 “stellar”, “laudable” and “creditable”, the co-founder said the task ahead was “simple to state”: Achieve sector-leading growth.
