Now access Yahoo in high-end Nokia phones

All multimedia phones and smartphones from Nokia will now be pre-loaded with popular Yahoo applications, enabling consumers to have access to a range of popular services, including messenger, e-mail, search, connections, photos, ringtones and games.

Yahoo's mobile application 'Yahoo Go' would be free for buyers of Nokia N series phones and Series 60 smart phones. Customers would only need to pay for accessing the web on their handsets, a Nokia release said.

The existing N70, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6681 and Nokia 6630 owners will be able to download the Yahoo! Go application on their existing handsets from https://asia.go.yahoo.com

The new Yahoo! Go service provides a desktop-like interface on the mobile.

Wednesday's announcement is an extension of the partnership announced between the two companies in 2005 which made Yahoo! search and entertainment services such as ringtones and wallpapers available on select Nokia mobile phones.

"Mobile phones have evolved as the consumer's ultimate companion. With the consumption levels for e-mail and messenger services in India constituting close to 98 per cent of the total internet usage, the availability of Yahoo! Go services on Nokia N70 and Series 60 smartphones will bring a new dimension to mobility," said Nokia India Director (multimedia) Gautam Advani.

The announcement of tie-up between Nokia and Yahoo comes at a time when the use of internet on mobile phones has seen a quantum jump.

According to analysts, use of applications like e-mail, Internet, news-based services and messaging have witnessed on mobile devices has shown an increase of 15-20 per cent in 2005-06 as compared to 2004-2005.
