In India, it's Nokia all the way

A consumer study has ranked Nokia as the most preferred brand in mobile phones followed by Samsung and Reliance.

In terms of aggregate preferences, the Nokia brand topped the chart with 75 per cent followed by Samsung and Reliance with seven and four per cent respectively, the study carried out by Indicus Consumer Tracker said.

In terms of top 200 individual Indian brands, Pepsi tops the list with aggregate preference of five per cent followed by Maruti, Tata, Sony, Samsung, Cadbury, Colgate, Nokia, Coke and LG.

The study revealed that in terms of brand recall in respective categories, Nokia ranks first in the mobile phone segment, Lux tops the chart in soaps, Fair & Lovely in face cream, Raymond in apparel, Titan in watches and Sony in electronic items.

In the same category, ICICI has the highest brand recall value in the credit card segment, LIC in insurance, Sunsilk in shampoo, Pepsi in beverage, Bata in footwear, Tanishq in jewellery, LG in appliances, Bajaj in automobile and Taj in hotels.

The Indicus Consumer Tracker, a monthly series, which monitors consumer preferences, used a sample size of 4,000 respondents for the survey.

In the top eight cities, Pepsi has the highest brand recall value followed by Tata, Sony, Maruti, Cadbury, Samsung, Colgate, Nokia, Coke, Mercedes Benz and Hindustan Lever among others.

Among students, Pepsi was followed by Nike, Samsung, Cadbury, Nokia, Sony, Adidas, Hindustan Lever, Mercedes Benz and Tata.

In the 19-24 year age group, Pepsi and Nokia were the two topmost brands.

The top 10 preferred brands among teenagers are Pepsi, Nike, Samsung, Cadbury, Nokia, Honda, Sony, Mercedes Benz, Tata and Adidas.
