Bellsonica Auto Component India, the recently formed joint venture between Maruti Udyog and Bellsonica Corporation of Japan for meeting Maruti's and Suzuki Motorcycles' component metal requirement, is likely to supply components for Nissan's range of cars to be manufactured by Maruti.

Baci will also eye other car makers in India such as Hyundai, General Motors, Toyota and Ford, said sources close to Baci. Baci, in which Maruti owns a 30 per cent stake, will go onstream during the second half of 2007.

"Along with meeting the requirements of Maruti and Nissan, Baci would explore the possibility of supplying components to other leading car makers in the country," said sources.

Nissan is likely to roll out a 1.3 litre, three-cylinder small car from Maruti's upcoming unit in Manesar, which can make 100,000 cars. The capacity is likely to be tripled in the three- four years.

Baci was set up by Bellsonica on the recommendation of Suzuki Motor Corp. The JV will manufacture metal bodies for components, including high tensile strength steel. The plant will be located at MUL's new car plant in Manesar, Haryana.

Prior to the joint venture, Bellsonica used to provide technical support to Jay Bharat Maruti, another component maker, where Maruti holds a minority stake. Bellsonica is an independently owned company in Japan. It has been traditionally serving Suzuki.

Maruti has a cluster of about 12 component makers, working in and around its manufacturing facilities. Maruti's other joint ventures like Krishna Maruti and Jaya Bharat were earlier established as an exclusive suppliers of components to the companies.

However, these companies later on turned out to be suppliers to other auto companies. The companies are also exporting components abroad.
