New port to boost Andhra Pradesh's economy

The Central government plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore (Rs 50 billion) to develop Dugarajapatnam port in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore District.

Presenting the footprint for development, Viswapati Trivedi Secretary, Union Ministry of Shipping on behalf of Minister GK Vasan, stated that there are fourteen non-major ports and two major ports in the state.

Viswapati Trivedi stated that Vishakapatnam Port has a capacity 62 MT.

The port is expected to get an investment of Rs 9,632 crore by 2038.The new port will have a cargo traffic of 35 MT by 2018 and 150 MT by 2038.

The non-major ports in Andhra Pradesh that can bring in investments are Dugarajapatnam, Krishnapatnam, Vadareu, Nizamapatnam, Machiplipatnam, Narsapur, Yanam capitve port, Kakinada, Nakkarpalli, Visakhapatnam, Bhimunipatnam, Kalingapatnam, Meghavaram Port and Bhavanapadu.
