Net4India to sell .IN domain names

Net 4 India has been appointed registrar for '.IN' domain names by the National Internet Exchange of India.

The company will be authorised to sell the in-country domain names from January 1, 2005, a statement issued in New Delhi said.

Applicants will have to apply through an accredited registrar and owners of registered Indian trademarks will be given first preference.

The regulatory body has provided a sunrise period of 21 days from 1 January, 2005 to preferred applicants.

In case domain names are not booked in the specified period they will be given to the general public, the statement said.
