Moser Baer seeks additional land for SEZ

November 16, 2006 16:20 IST
Leading optical and magnetic storage device manufacturer Moser BaerĀ said on Thursday it has sought an additional 25 acres of land to expand its upcoming special economic zone, which is expected to be operational by the end of this year.

"By December this year, our non-conventional energy SEZ which is spread across 27 acre land in Greater Noida is expected to be operational. Our plan is to almost double the size by next year," Moser Baer Managing Director Deepak Puri saidĀ in New Delhi on the sidelines of a Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry function in New Delhi.

The company has sought approval from authorities for an additional 25 acres for the SEZ, he said.

"While the initial portion of the SEZ will focus on non-conventinal energy, the new land will focus on
information technology," he said.

The company would be setting up four plants for manufacturing of photovoltaic cells based on different technologies in the SEZ, Puri also said.

"By the end of next year, all the four plants will be operational," he said, but declined to comment on the investments.

He said the company expects to start shipments from the SEZ in another five months without divulging order sizes.

Moser Baer had invested in three companies based in the US for collaboration in research and development, back-end manufacturing and partial marketing but declined to disclose the nature and size of investments.
