March 11, 2005 16:20 IST
Optical media maker Moser Baer on Friday said that it would start manufacturing mobile phone hand sets in the next six months.

"The production (of mobile phone handsets) will begin in next six months," Moser Baer chairman Deepak Puri said. Indian telecom sector is booming and we are meeting the requirement of handsets through imports.

"We are trying to address this situation. The production will begin in next six months," Puri said.

Moser Baer is the second Indian company to announce plans to manufacture handsets, the first being BPL.

Apart from the Indian companies, many multinationals like Nokia and LG too plan manufacture mobile phone handsets in India.
