Eighteen multinational corporations have been issued show cause notices by the Enforcement Directorate for paying salaries abroad to their foreign national employees working in India without getting the Reserve Bank of India's permission, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
Payment of salaries to them outside India was violative of the provisions of FERA, Minister of State for Finance Gingee Ramachandran said in a written reply.
The companies which have been issued notices include Sony, LG, Samsung and Hyundai, Japan Airlines, Nokia, Marubeni, Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, Motorola, Mitsubishi, Sanwa Bank, Bank of Nova Scotia, Deutsche Bank, Sakura Bank, All Nippon Airways, Ericsson, Daewoo and Fuji Bank.
Imports: The Enforcement Directorate has also issued show cause notices to 3,176 companies which had allegedly failed to submit proof of physical imports after having remitted foreign exchange to overseas sellers, he said.
